On June 9, 2017, Mary McDonnell and Kyra Sedgwick reunited for the very first time at the ATX Festival in Austin, Texas. As part of the panel for “Complex, Not Complicated: A Look a Woman’s Character” they joined other influential women in entertainment to discuss the issues and challenges that women experience both in front of and behind the camera, and what is being done to combat them, one character and story at a time.

Panel Description: Now more than ever, television is home to a range of increasingly complex female characters: ones that are bold, funny, fierce, sensitive, loyal, fragile, complicated, and kick ass (sometimes all in the same moment). Prepare to be awestruck as these powerhouse creatives and actors discuss the legacy of female characters before them, the necessity of women’s stories at this particular moment in pop culture, and why there’s no one way to write a “strong” woman.
