Major Crimes Renewed For Season 5!

MURDER IN THE FIRST (TNT)UPDATED 12/15/15

TNT has officially announced Major Crimes season 5 renewal today, several weeks after word first broke on social media about the renewal order.

While there were initially conflicting reports about the number of episodes in the pickup, MajorCrimesTV.net has confirmed with TNT that at this time 13 episodes have been ordered for Season 5. While this is a lower-than-usual number of episodes, Major Crimes has historically seen its episode order increased for each of the past 3 seasons, most recently this current season where the initial episode order of 15 was increased twice to a total of 23 episodes in Season 4.

Along with the renewal of Major Crimes and The Librarians, TNT also announced the cancellation of the underperforming series Legends, Agent X, and Public Morals.

Happy Holidays indeed – we’re hearing that Major Crimes has been renewed for Season 5! The renewal was announced on social media today, and confirmed by several of the cast members on the show on twitter and Facebook.

Season 4 of Major Crimes is currently airing its winter season, with a total of 23 episodes scheduled to air, the largest episode order of any TNT series to date.

Major Crimes enjoyed a very strong summer season, finishing as the Most Watched Basic Cable Series for 10 consecutive weeks, besting perennial frontrunner Rizzoli & Isles, and more than doubling the ratings of fellow TNT series Murder in the First, Proof, and Falling Skies throughout the summer season.

This winter Major Crimes has been a bright spot on TNT’s roster, which has been suffering losses of over half its viewership from its summer to winter seasons. While Major Crimes has also suffered from the TNT viewer drop, its numbers have been the least impacted of all TNT’s currently airing dramas, and has continued to lead as TNT’s most-watched program this winter by an average margin of almost a half million viewers.

Ratings: Major Crimes Continues Strong Holiday Run; Wins Night & Week as Most Watched Cable Series

By M. Sharpe

416- buzz kendall provenza sanchez tao lrMajor Crimes continued its winning ways in the ratings for its holiday run. Last night’s episode brought in 3.29 million viewers, down slightly from last weeks winter season high, but still easily won the night as the most watched scripted cable series.

Episode 414 continued to perform strongly in time delayed ratings, growing to 4.05 million total viewers and 0.7 million viewers in the 18-49 demographic in Live + 3 (a massive 75% increase for the demographic over the Live numbers). The continued strong performance of the episode also helped it to score the top spot as the Most Watched Scripted Cable Show of the Week for the first time this winter season.

The slight dip in ratings this week was felt across the board on TNT’s offerings, though Major Crimes continues to be the most watched TNT original of the winter season, besting runner up The Librarians by more than 1.2 million viewers. The rest of TNT’s roster has continued to struggle to find an audience this season, with new series Agent X dropping to 0.99 million viewers and 0.2 million (18-49), and Major Crimes lead-out Legends dropping to a new low at 0.67 million viewers and 0.1 (18-49).

Major Crimes will air two more new episodes in 2015, then take a break, and return with the final five episodes of Season 4 on February 15, 2016.

Ratings: Major Crimes Scores Big in Post-Holiday Outing; Wins Night

By M. Sharpe

415-buzz provenza raydor sykes tao lrTurkey, Black Friday, and Major Crimes? Viewers were happy to include Major Crimes as part of their holiday traditions this year, with 3.69 million tuning in for Monday’s episode. The episode gained a whopping 1.2 million viewers over last week as many viewers found it for the first time this winter season, due to the outing being the first to air in Major Crimes usual Monday-after-Thanksgiving time slot.

The almost 50% increase in total viewers also helped Major Crimes easily win the night as the most watched scripted cable offering.   Strong gains were also seen in the key 18-49 demographic, where the episode rose more than 24% over last week to 0.5 million viewers.

With the increase in this weeks ratings, Major Crimes is close to matching its Winter 2014 ratings performances.  Unfortunately the same cannot be said for the rest of TNT’s winter lineup, which continues to experience the ratings slump we first mentioned last week. TNT’s other winter offerings all experienced drops this week, including Agent X (1.03/0.2 to 0.98/0.2) and Librarians (2.10/0.5 to 2.02/0.5). The struggling Major Crimes lead-out Legends saw a small increase this week, rising from .58/0.1 to 0.72/0.1.

“Dear Major Crimes Fans,

Welcome Back to MajorCrimesTV.net! Not many shows can boast such an ardent proponent as Mina Sharpe. And, when she temporarily shut down… the above mentioned site boosting the show, many of us who make it felt personally bereft.

Unfortunately, during the changeover of network administrations, the terrific connection Mia had created with fans worldwide got a little lost in the corporate shuffle.

We have addressed the problems in how information is distributed, and you can once again turn to MajorCrimesTV for exclusives, interviews with our cast and crew, guest star announcements, Identity by Rusty Beck, and much, much more that will put Major Crimes in context both artistically and professionally.

The advent of New Media (which is no longer new) has changed the proprietary nature of episodic television. By investing so much of their time in programming, viewers also become shareholders of every show they watch. Major Crimes has always treated its audience as a partner, and we hope the return of Mina’s site exemplifies our commitment to maintaining that partnership with each and every one of you.

Ratings: Major Crimes Wins Night in First Thanksgiving Outing

By M. Sharpe

414- Buzz Provenza Sanchez lrIn its first-ever Thanksgiving outing, Major Crimes stayed steady in the ratings despite going up against Monday Night Football and the TV “sweeps” period. Last nights Major Crimes brought in 2.49 million total viewers (up slightly from its winter season average to date), and won the night as the Most-Watched Scripted Cable Original of the Night.

Greater gains were seen in key demos, where 0.4 million viewers 18-49 tuned in, a rise of more than 33% over the prior week.  Major Crimes is also vastly outperforming its new companion on Monday nights, bringing in in over 300% more viewers than lead-out Legends (580,000/0.1)

Across the board, TNT has been suffering losses of over half its viewership from its summer finales to this winter’s premieres (average network viewership of 2.94/0.5 in summer to 1.5/0.3 this winter). Meanwhile, the sole new offering from the network this winter debuted far below expectations, with only 1.01 million viewers (0.2 demo) tuning in for the premiere of Agent X.

While Major Crimes has also suffered from the TNT viewer drop, its numbers have been the least impacted of all TNT’s currently airing dramas, and has continued to lead as TNT’s most-watched program this winter by an average margin of almost a half million. Those gains are even greater when Live +3 numbers are taken into account, where Major Crimes has recovered much of its missing viewership, rising to an average of 4.2 million viewers and 0.7 million viewers 18-49 in Live + 3 day viewing.

TNT, we know it’s been a while, but we have to ask anyway – where is the Season 5 renewal for Major Crimes?

Major Crimes Season 4 Episode Order Extended – Again!

By M. Sharpe

mc black castMajorCrimesTV.net has learned that TNT has increased the episode order for Major Crimes Season Four to 23 episodes.

As we first announced in July, Major Crimes had its first episode order increase just prior to its season four premiere, with three episodes added to the order. With todays increase of five episodes, it brings the total for season four to 23 episodes.

5moreActor Phillip P. Keene tweeted about the extension this morning, announcing the increased episode order.

The announcement comes amid much suspense as fans wait for a Season 5 renewal announcement. Despite performing strongly in the ratings this summer as summer’s #1 most-watched scripted cable program, no renewal has been announced for season five, marking the first time the show has gone it its summer hiatus period without being renewed.

Major Crimes will return for the second half of its fourth season on Monday, November 2nd, 2015.

Ratings: Major Crimes Ends Summer Season With a Bang, Wins Night & Week as Most Watched Cable Series

Major Crimes ended its explosive summer season on a high note last night, capping off an impressive and consistent showing in the ratings for the last 10 weeks. Last night’s summer finale brought in 4.5 million total viewers, making it the second most watched episode of the summer season. The episode also won the night as the most watched scripted cable program, an honor it has held for its entire 10-week run.

Major Crimes continues to dominate the rest of TNT’s summer programing. In addition to reaching season-high viewership numbers, last week’s episode also won the week as the most watched scripted cable program, easily besting fellow TNT series Rizzoli and Isles, which held the #2 spot, by over 300k viewers, and bringing in almost 2 million more viewers than TNT’s other recently renewed summer series The Last Ship (2.98/0.8). Among the rest of TNT’s summer slate, Major Crimes continued its winning trend, more than doubling the ratings impact of its sister shows on the network, including Monday night lead-out Murder in the First (2.0/0.3), Proof (1.99/0.3), and Falling Skies (1.98/0.5).

Though a full reporting of time-delayed ratings weren’t immediately available, Major Crimes has continued to show strong growth in Live + 3 ratings, with episode 408 growing to 6.006 million viewers thus far, a 37% increase over it’s Live + Same Day impact, and a 4% increase over the prior weeks growth. In key demographics the episode showed even greater gains, with 0.9 million viewers 18-49 tuning in, a whopping 60% increase.

With numbers like this, we have to ask… TNT, what are you waiting for? It’s time to renew Major Crimes for Season 5!
