Ratings: Despite Stiff Competition, Major Crimes Wins Night as Top Scripted Cable Show

Despite fierce competition from both Monday Night Football and the beginning of the fall season on the broadcast networks, Major Crimes ratings held remained strong last night, with fast overnights showing it with 4.67 million live viewers (Monday Night Football had 15.5 million viewers), to once again win the night among all scripted cable shows. Despite the drop of 290,000 viewers over last weeks episode (4.9 million and only 10 million football viewers), the numbers indicate that Major Crimes is able to retain a good portion of it’s audience, even when pitted against the most competitive night of the week of the regular fall season.

In addition, for the week of September 11th, 2012, Major Crimes was the #2 highest rated scripted show of the week, behind only the fall premiere of Sons of Anarchy.

TV Guide Talks to Mary McDonnell About “Major Crimes”

In a new interview with TVGuide.com, Mary McDonnell talks about the unlikely path that took her from guest-star to series lead, and Captain Raydor’s transition from foe to friend of the squad.

“I’ve never had something grow this way,” McDonnell tells TVGuide.com. “This was just a delightful three-episode romp, and I was very excited to be able to fully embrace the antagonist. Then it just grew and grew. And I was standing by going, ‘Well, this is interesting. Let’s take another step.’ I don’t think it was really until we [premiered] a few of weeks ago that it truly occurred to me what had happened.”

Review: Episode 1.05- “Citizen’s Arrest”

Review of episode 1.05 “Citizen’s Arrest” by TVFanatic.com:

“From the moment we learned about the crime of the week until the last scene of the episode, every aspect of Major Crimes was perfection. Brenda Leigh Johnson could not have handled the case any better than Sharon Raydor, and it’s my assessment that the nature of the case needed the likes of Raydor and her willingness to deal with the ugliest dregs of society. “
